Quick Hitters — Summer Style

Michigan summer—the good kind—is here! Sunny days, (mostly) low humidity, and not too much rain (we could maybe use a little more)—great days and nights to be outside! To get you ready for your activity of choice more quickly, here are three things to keep in mind as you prepare for your late summer/fall races: You may not feel great right now—that’s OK. Depending on where you are with your training there is a good chance you have been pushing hard. And even though in general the weather has been better lately it’s still hot out there. Your body is in a perpetual state of recovery—that’s expected mid training.

As events like MiTi approach you should feel a little more rested, but even if not know that your training will kick in. “Trust the process” is a real thing—stay positive as your race day approaches. Be flexible with your training plan. Summer is a great time to travel—that can get in the way of training plans!

I am out of town this weekend so was able to get my long run done on Thursday. I was out last weekend as well—so no long run last week. That’s OK—adjust your plan and try to get key workouts in.

Sorry not sorry—get your ferritin checked. I’ll stop reminding everyone about this as soon as I stop seeing athletes who have not had this checked—that hasn’t happened yet! If you have not gotten this checked recently (or at all) please do so—this can derail or (when caught and treated) save your training and racing. You all should have access to an article about this.
